SUN 29
ON A HIGH NOTE: Throughout the summer, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra has been performing free shows around the city. Today, they’ll play at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, where Martin Luther King Jr. once preached. The program will include Bernstein’s “Overture to Candide,” Waxman’s “Carmen Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra” and Dvorak’s “Symphony No. 9 in E Minor.” 7 p.m. 404-733-5000. www.atlantasymphony.org.

MON JULY 30
CLOSER TO FINE: Of course you love the Indigo Girls. And you’ve always wanted to be on TV. So don’t miss the band’s show today—it’s being recorded for a television show and a DVD. If you’re lucky, you could make the final cut. The show starts at 8 p.m. at the Coca-Cola Roxy Theatre. $25. 404-233-1062. www.livenation.com.

TIME TO KILL: If your evening is free, or you can clear your schedule, head down to the Fox Theatre for a double feature that promises to deliver the best and the worst the organized crime has to offer. “The Departed” and “Goodfellas” will be shown back-to-back at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Fox’s summer movie series. Arrive early for an organ sing-a-long, which starts at 6:45. $7. 404-817-8700. www.foxtheatre.org.

TUE 31
MORE THAN MEETS THE EYES: Though, sadly, their equipment most likely won’t suddenly unfold into robots, the Goo Goo Dolls should play “Before It’s Too Late” from the “Transformers” soundtrack at today’s show. The band, along with Lifehouse and Colbie Caillat, will perform at 7:30 p.m. at Chastain Park. Tickets are $48. www.livenation.com. 404-249-6400.

WED 1
HEAD ON DOWN TO THE LOVESHACK: Though the B-52s celebrated the 30th anniversary of their first performance this year, there’s still plenty of fun to be had at their shows. Seriously, how can you resist seeing the band responsible for song about everything from lobsters and poodles named Quiche Lorraine to strobe lights and hot pants? The show, which also features The Skylarks, starts at 7:30 p.m. at Chastain Park. Ticket prices range from $22 to $64.

THURS, AUG 2
A RUNWAY AND RED RIBBONS: Models will wear the latest from some of the top boutiques in Atlanta at Urban Chic, a fashion show to benefit AID Atlanta. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at Fever Nightclub and Lounge. Tickets are $100 for the fashion show and $500 for a VIP package that includes a private party, runway seating and a cocktail reception with an open bar. For tickets, call Carolyn Edrington at 404-870-7732. www.aidatlanta.org.

ROCK THE BELLS
BETWEEN THE COVERS: Who says history has to be dry and dull? Certainly not local author Karen Abbott. Tonight, she’ll be talking about her book “Sin in the Second City.” Set in Chicago during the early 1900s, it depicts the Everleigh House, one of the country’s most well-known brothels. The discussion will start at 7:15 p.m. at the Decatur Library. 404-370-8450, ext. 2225.www.georgiacenterforthebook.org.

LAUGHS ON THE SPOT: OK, you have an umbrella, a concrete block and a banana. What do you do? We have no idea, but we’re guessing comedian Greg Proops might be able to come up with something. You might remember the improve master from “Whose Line is It Anyway” (he appeared on both the British and the American versions). Today through Sunday, he’ll be performing stand up at the Funny Farm. Shows start at 8:30 tonight, at 8 and 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 8 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $15 and $20. 770-817-HAHA. www.funnyfarmcomedyclub.com.

FRI, AUG 3
WEAR A FLOWER IN YOUR HAIR: Experience peace, love and happiness at Hippiefest, a show featuring artists such as Country Joe McDonald, Mountain, Badfinger, The Zombies and The Turtles. The show starts at 7 p.m. at Chastain Park. Tickets range from $28 to $79. Call 404-249-6400 or visit www.classicchastain.com.

SAT, AUG 4
READY FOR A CLOSE-UP: Whether you have “Real World” aspirations or believe that your talents truly are worthy of national attention, DREAMS N2 REALITY can help you find your place in the universe of reality television. The event, which includes a casting call and advice for reality show hopefuls, takes place at Philips Arena. You may even get to meet reality show stars like Diana DeGarmo and William Hung of “American Idol” and Sadie Murray of “The Bachelor Rome,” as well as the casting directors for shows like “I Love New York” and “Deal or No Deal.” The casting call starts at 6 a.m., with interactive events to begin at 1 p.m. Ticket prices range from $49 to $115. 404-249-6400. www.dreamsn2reality.net.

AN EVENING WITH AUDREY:
An actual trip to Italy might not be in the cards right now, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy a “Roman Holiday.” See the Audrey Hepburn film tonight during Norcross Classic Movies Under the Stars, which is held on the patio at the Northern Star Coffeehouse in historic downtown Norcross. And yes, it is outside 285, but definitely worth the drive. Plan to get there in time to have dinner at one of the many area restaurants. The film starts at dusk. Admission is $6.50. 770-840-8071. www.northernstarcoffeehouse.com.

Greg Proops is an "improv master", not an "improve master."
