One haute winter

No, you really don’t have to look like a bag lady to save your body temperature

Is it possible to look trendy and stay toasty? We’re warming up to the idea.

Thanks to Mother Nature, we’re enjoying a record-setting winter. While the temps may be at an all-time low, your wardrobe needn’t be anything less than high fashion. Trust us, there are much more attractive ways to ward off the cold than a Snuggie—even though they do conveniently allow your hands to stay free so you can work the remote. From jackets to leggings to earmuffs … oh, my! We’ve got you covered (literally). Prepare to stay haute—and warm—this winter.

:Get a Leg Up
Show off your gams without getting frostbite. Wool keeps your legs toasty warm, while the textured pattern is right on-trend. Chuck those lightweight leggings into the fire—or at least save them for the spring thaw. Theory wool leggings, $140, at Saks Fifth Avenue, Phipps Plaza.

Poncho Power
It’s warm. It’s snuggly. It fits over your favorite winter outfits. Think of a poncho like a Snuggie for off-the-couch use. H&M offers one that looks luxe and feels like heaven. Hooded poncho, $79.95, at H&M. Visit www.hm.com for a list of Atlanta locations.

Faux Paw
Don’t worry, it’s not real fur. But it’s just as warm. Pull this chic-meets-edgy piece on over jeans and a top or even a dress, and rough up any outfit. I Heart Ronson fur vest, on sale for $62.99, at JCPenney. Visit www.jcpenney.com for locations.

One Hot Stud
It’s sexy. It’s edgy. It’s … cozy? That’s right. A blazer is pure rock ’n’ roll on the outside, but the fact that it’s made out of fleece makes it as soft and warm as your favorite Northface jacket. But no one needs to know that, so rock on. Gryphon studded collar fleece blazer, $390, available at Nordstrom at Phipps Plaza, Perimeter and www.nordstrom.com.

Give Cold Feet the Boot
You can say all you want about Uggs: Complain that they peaked in the early ’00s. Whine that they’re ugly. Doesn’t matter. (And for the record, SO not true!) Once you slip your freezing footsies into a pair of these bad boys, you’ll quit your griping and get to stepping. Classic argyle knit boot, $140, from UGG Australia, www.uggaustralia.com.

Infinitely Warm
Call it a circle scarf or an infinity scarf, either way it’s a never-ending story. Scarves can be worn loose for a casual, messy look, or wrapped a few times for added warmth. In this weather, we recommend the latter. Unisex circle scarf (in various colors), $28, at American Apparel, visit www.americanapparel.net for a list of Atlanta locations.

Tweed All About It
It’s a modern update on a classic. Take one part professor-worthy tweed jacket, add in a healthy dose of hipster zip-up, and you’ve got a warm, mod-meets-dandy coat. Tweed jacket (quilted and lined), $47.90, by Heritage 1981. www.heritage1981.com.

Sweater Girl
Nothing keeps the chill out and the warm fuzzies in like a classic, comfy sweater coat. The Leifsdottr belted mélange sweater coat, $258, at Nordstrom is stylish enough to look great, but snuggly enough to leave Old Man Winter out in the cold.

Do You Hear What I Hear?
Have you heard that earmuffs are the best way to keep your lobes toasty? If not, you were probably wearing yours too tight. Unisex earmuffs from American Apparel, $20.

Velveteen Habit
Nothing says winter luxury like a velvet blazer. Factor in the pinstripes, and prepare for one hot, haber-dashing look. Velvet pinstriped blazer, $49.90 at Heritage 1981. SP
