FIGHTING WITH FASHION
Breast cancer awareness continues all this month. Extend it year-round with an added sense of style.

Get hip to the cause with Juicy Couture’s limited-edition Viva La Cure T-shirts ($35) all this month at Saks Fifth Avenue, as sported by Renée Zellweger, Entertainment Industry Foundation Ambassador for Sak’s Fifth Avenue’s 2007 Key to the Cure campaign. Get yours at Sak’s shopping weekend Oct. 18–21 when a percentage of the sales is donated to local women’s cancer charities. 404-261-7234. Bloomingdale’s offers up a shiny silver lining with Sterling Sentiments Words to Live By bracelets ($100), which are inscribed with inspirational messages from famous folks like Beyoncé and her mom (“Be inpired. Love can conquer all.”), Julianna Margulies, Lynda Carter a.k.a. Wonder Woman (“Wonder – Believe – Create”), Mena Suvari, Amanda Beard, Atlanta’s Deborah Norville and columnist Liz Smith (“Civilized Talk”). The bangles, designed by Carolee, are available now through December, and all proceeds benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. IN A MANOR OF SPEAKING
Last week, I hit up Laura Turner Seydel’s house for a little fall shopping. While I didn’t exactly raid her closet, I did discover a wealth of local designers offering a host of fab fashions and beauty products. Seydel opened up her eco-friendly home for a one-day eco-accessories trunk show of earth-minded vendors. Kimberly Jackson’s KayJay bright handbags popped in one of the front rooms of the homes (see page XX for more on those). Stationed in the dining room was Kathleen Plate, owner and designer of Smart Glass Jewelry, a stylish line of recycled glass necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Plate’s spirited efforts for taking care of Mother Earth extend to her collection of lightweight, eye-catching jewelry. Shirley Wintsch of Nitabella was there with her graphic bamboo cotton dresses and tunics, which sport “Spanime,” what she describes as a cross between Spanish flair and Japanese anime. On the same floor (still unsure as to how many there were in Seydel’s mansion), I fell head over heels for Michele Marcombe’s Pop Rock/Pup Rock line of concert T-shirts made into handbags, diaper bags and doggie couture—most of which are emblazoned with Swarovski crystals (not in a campy Bedazzled way, but more of a rock-star way). Sherley Delpozo was on hand to give us a whiff of the good life with Soleil Candles, which are as fragrant as they are good for the environment. It’s not just about making your room smell good anymore—we’ve got the ozone to protect, too. Alyson Hoag (Seydel’s personal makeup artist) was on hand for makeup touch-ups and to introduce guests to her Authentic Beauty cosmetic application and product company, which allows natural beauty to shine through—as opposed to getting all caked, baked and faked with who-even-knows-what. Hoag opens up her own studio in November. Eco Bella from Virginia Highland had all its glory laid out in Seydel’s family room. This shop has got Atlanta’s men, women, babies and homes covered in the organics, all-natural department. If you’re into being green (and you had better be on this hellaciously warm October day), stop in at Eco Bella for a rundown on how to get your mind, body and home fashionably eco-chic.

GIMME MORE
Local and national designers and vendors congregate Oct. 17 and 18 at Shecky’s Girls Night Out at the Biltmore from 5 to 10 p.m. Tables upon tables of fashionable buys—most at affordable prices—are offered up, along with an über-fabulous goodie bag, which will save you several trips to your fave beauty bar for at least a couple of weeks. Insider tip: Bring a designated driver and some ones for tipping. The buzz of shopping requires you to be 21. $10 for general admission, but splurge on the $25 deluxe ticket to score the bag of tricks. SP
